- Enjoy videos or browse online on a 14" HD display...
One of the main reasons your computer might be sluggish is because there are multiple programs running in the background. Start by turning off the programs you don’t need or barely use. It’s obvious you don’t want to be doing this every time you restart your system so it’s best to just disable them altogether.
Launch the task manager. There is a lot you can do here, but for now, we are only concerned with the programs which run at startup. Go to the startup tab. You will find a list of everything that launches when you start Windows. It also has a column called startup impact which shows how much each program affects your computers performance on startup.
To stop programs from launching, simply disable them. This doesn’t uninstall the program, it just prevents it from launching with your system. You can always run the application if you ever need to. While you may know most of the programs on the list, there will invariably be a few that you don’t recognize. Should you keep them on or turn them off? The internet is where you can get the answer to this question. Find out if the service or application is vital to Windows online. If it isn’t, disable it.
Disable Visual Effects, Animations, And Shadows
There is no denying the fact that the later versions of Windows look a lot better than the earlier ones. This is because of the additional visual effects, animations, and shadows. On newer PCs, this doesn’t really affect performance in any way. But, on a slower PC, they can slow it down.
To turn them off, simply go to the search box and type in sysdm.cpl. This will launch your system properties box. Go to advanced and then settings in the performance section. This will take you to the performance options box. Here you will find a list of special effects and animations.
You can choose to turn off the effects which are slowing down your computer. If you have a little time, you can try turning them off one at a time. The easiest thing to do is select the adjust for best performance option. Windows will automatically turn off all the effects which are hampering your computers performance.
Scan With AntiVirus Software
If your computer or laptop is slow then there is a high possibility that your system could be infected with some kind of malware threat. Malware is often able to degrade the performance of a system significantly and so running a scan with a highly reputable malware protection suite can often help out a lot.
